Can my child turn off Family Link? ›

On the day they turn 13, children can choose whether they want to manage their own Google Account or continue to have their parent manage it for them. As a parent, you can also choose to remove supervision at any time when the child is over the age of 13.

Google Family Link is a free app that allows you to manage your child's Android device, including monitoring their text messages. To use Google Family Link: Install Google Family Link for Parents on your Android device.

That said, it is possible to remove Family Link without parents. To do it without parental account settings, you'll need to navigate to the “Settings” application on your phone, then find the “Manage App” option by scrolling down. Once in the “Manage App” option, look for “Family Link” and select that option.

Go to g.co/YourFamily. Select the child you want to remove. Remove member. You may need to enter your password.

As soon as they turn 13, they automatically get control over their Google Account which results in disabling all controls imposed by Family Link. In fact it gives the option to your child to continue being monitored or not - they have to give consent to their parents.
